Research published in the current issue of ‘Aging & Society‘  examines the approach to death & dying in nursing homes based on focus group sessions with staff.
Findings indicate that even in this environment where death is commonplace, open discussion about death & dying was not forthcoming. Evidence of death avoidance was indicated, illustrating the potential for additional knowledge and training inputs to support nursing home staff in facilitating open end-of-life discussion.
